“Kemp’s Inner City Elite” – 8/15/2014

Matt has partnered with local South LA based Ladera Little League and the Ladera Travel Team, now named Kemp’s Inner City Elite”, to financially support their upcoming baseball seasons.  To be able to encourage and inspire African American youth on a more personal level to play the sport that has brought Matt so much, is a dream come true.  It is also something that Matt has been looking to do since starting Kemp’s Kids 5 years ago.  In meeting both Quincy and Cherie Robinson, he knew that he had found the right organization.  “Quincy and Cherie’s passion for the game and for those who play at Ladera is unreal. They provide so much more than just a sports league to these kids and this was something I wanted to be a part of.”

“West Angeles Church – Man of the Year” – February 6, 2014

On February 6th, 2014 Matt was presented with the prestigious Man of the Year award from the West Angeles Church of God where he was highlighted for having an equal passion for his sport as he does for children, specifically Kemp’s Kids, and the LA community.Below is an excerpt from Matt’s speech that night:

I love baseball.

I love everything about the game.

It’s an instrument that inspires, lifts the spirit, creates unity, and simulates many of life’s patterns.

Like walking out your door in the morning, making a few pit stops, hoping to safely return to the place you know you’re family awaits…home plate.

Like understanding the importance of strategy, the payoff of patience, and that if you really think about it (though exciting to watch) the homerun will never match the beauty of the sacrifice.

Kemp’s Kids Holiday Event 2013

Los Angeles, CA  (December 17, 2013) – The two-time All-Star and center fielder, Matt Kemp, #27 of the Los Angeles Dodgers hosted a Holiday evening filled with baseball, smiles and dreams of over 50 Ladera Little Leaguers on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at Baseball Central in Los Angeles, Calif. The evening began with a bus ride for the kids to Baseball Central where an evening of games, prizes, batting cages, and food and drink were set for their enjoyment.  Additionally, games and contests were held to help increase their baseball knowledge and gave them the opportunity to win fun prizes and interact with Kemp.  Throughout the night Kemp gave the group batting tips, joked with some of the kids about their quiz answers, and talked about their mutual love for the game. At the end of the night, each child was gifted a Nike sports bag, with a Nike compression shirt, Kemp’s Kids merchandise and a New Era hat inside.”So far Matt is 2 for 2 and we love that type of batting average. He first educated the kids by taking them to see “42””, said Quincy Robinson, President of Ladera Little League, “Then he spent one on one time with the kids and provided them with games, food, and fun at his holiday event. It has been wonderful working with Matt and his efforts to mentor the youth of Los Angeles”.
